If you want a good luck charm that goes beyond four leaf clovers, how about a three legged pig?
Made of terracotta clay and crafted to just the right level of cuteness, these little Chilean piggies are considered lucky charms. Upon inspecting these pigs, you’ll come to find they only have three legs. Here at the shop I’ve been asked, “Did they make this pig wrong? Why are these lucky?”
Well, crafted in Chile, those three legs are no mistake! These cute piggies have happily hobbled there way into many a home, as they are often given by friends as a token of good fortune. Although the legend behind them has become a bit unclear over the years, the overall belief seems to be that a three legged pig who is still standing must be one lucky pig!
Low-fired to bring out the dark reddish clay colors, each Chanchito is one-of-a kind with slightly different markings; they even vary slightly in size and have unique little faces - some having bigger eyes, or more of a smile, which makes the one you’re drawn to a perfectly lucky match.
So if you’re looking for some good luck this March (or any month!), a Chanchito may be just what you need. At the very least the little guy will serve as a friendly reminder: you are still standing after all!
Best of luck,
